This site gives you access to all of the Vatican Museums. There are six museums if you include the Sistine Chapel, as they do. Clicking on the name of a museum gives you a page with a short history of the museum with a list of major works. Clicking on the name of a piece gives you photographs and other information.
Along with the usual features of museum websites, this one also has suggested tours of your visit to the museum based on the time you will have.
It's no surprise that this website is gorgeous. It also has features that are innovative, like Kaleidoscope, under the "Collections" tab. Under "Eye-Openers" you can download a program that shows you 3D images you can explore with a mouse. This is a large site, and very much worth exploring.
This is a large website, developed by IBM, with all sorts of special features. Information about visiting exhibitions include reproductions of major works in the show. The website has a searchable database of the collection with information about each piece. Virtual tours of the collection allow you to browse the collection in larger bites. You can take a virtual tour of the museum, where you can point to a room on the floor plan and then see the a video tour of the room, the room's history and the major works exhibited there. You can also find out about the history of the museum.
